Our House Tour

Legend has it that the Guilford Bed & Breakfast was built by a lumber baron as a wedding gift to his daughter.

Showing great pride and respect for its history, local craftsmen have restored the home to its original splendor. With their diligent work now complete, this turn of the century Queen Anne radiates both graceful elegance and quiet, noble strength. It shines and sparkles in its newly restored splendor.

Arriving at the Guilford Bed and Breakfast, you step onto the wraparound porch and walk along to the front door in the sun porch, which affords a floor to ceiling panoramic view of the surroundings. If your timing is right, you might just glimpse the soft peach hues of the setting sun between the firs and birches.

Your hosts, Isobel and Harland Young, greet you and welcome you into their home. You find yourself in a grand foyer surrounded by refined style, warmth and grace. The common areas reflect the owners’ love of fresh flowers, crackling fires and good books.

Peek into the spacious, elegant dining room and you see where you will gather for morning coffee and where the hosts will serve you a freshly prepared, individualized breakfast.

You then notice a large but cozy room paneled in rich, dark wood with all the original scrolls and details. This is the library and it quietly awaits you, inviting you to curl up in one of many big comfy chairs. A huge fireplace, floor to ceiling bookshelves and many large windows enclose this haven. You make a mental note to return here later to unwind.

A grand staircase leads you up to your guest room, carefully decorated and appointed for your pleasure and comfort. After a good night’s rest you will be enticed down to the dining room by tantalizing aromas of coffee, home baking and sizzling breakfast fare. Bon appetit!
